Ilia Malinin won a gold medal at the World Figure Skating Championships in Montreal on Saturday night with what one USA Today opinion writer called "the greatest athletic performance in figure skating history." That free program performance included 6 quadruple jumps and no falls, which led to the highest-ever score for that event of 227.79. Saturday marked the best performance by the United States at a world championship since 1996.
